Today we hung out at the pool at our Bari hotel until it was time for us to go to Alberobello. It was about an hour to Alberobello and the scenery was beautiful. We are staying at Vita Dorata which is about 8 minutes outside of the center of Alberobello. It is very secluded and quiet.
We had dinner at Il Picconolo. It was delicious.
This is the center of Alberobello
Alberobello is known for their Trulli houses.
Trulli houses are traditional Apulian dry-stone dwellings featuring iconic gray conical roofs built without mortar.
Design: Built using local limestone slabs (chiancarelle) stacked without cement or mortar, featuring very thick walls that keep the interior naturally cool in summer and warm in winter.
Origins: Dating back structurally to prehistoric building techniques, the modern [[Trullo] style evolved in the Itria Valley around the 14th to 16th centuries.
Tax Legend: Locals historically built them dry-stacked so they could be quickly dismantled during tax inspections by Kingdom of Naples authorities.
Symbols: Roof pinnacles and painted symbols (like crosses or the evil eye) often decorate the cones for spiritual or propitiatory protection.
