Started out with breakfast that Gracia made us. We headed to the Castellana Grotte

Today’s adventure took us to Castellana Grotte. It took about 30 minutes to get there. The roads are narrow and winding and are lined with rock walls. There are groves of olive bushes and grape vines.

It is very rural with small towns dotted here and there. Puglia is much different than any region we have been to before. Very quiet. There are not the ruins you would see in Florence and Rome. They are old towns with old architecture.
We had lunch outside the caves. This was the biggest pizza I have seen.

It was yummy.
Then we went to the planetarium. It was a precursor to the caves.

Walking into the cave

If you look at the bottom left you will see an octopus and an owl.

They actually show movies here. At night is when 100s of bats will fly out of the cave to eat.
The trip covers a 3-kilometer round trip route and takes about 2 hours.
To end the night, we went into the center of Alberobello to stroll around.

We finished the pizza earlier and decided that gelato was perfect for dinner.

We sat and people watch as the restaurants closed down.
Ciao for now. ❤️
